Final Portfolio Printing

The final project for this class is a printed ten image portfolio. All images must have their smallest side at least 8”. (8”x8” Holga prints or 8” x 12” for 35mm.)

The paper best suited for this portfolio is Epson brand paper. Matte finish is preferred. There are many options in finsh and size avalialble. Be sure to verfiy that your paper choice compatible with Lab Printers (Epson 1280 & 2000P). The following links are reccomended:

Epson Heavyweight 8.5×11 Matte Paper,
(Reccomended, for smooth non-glare surface and heavy paper weight- heavy ink coverage will dampen and wrinkle paper)

Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper – 8.5×11 (50 Sheets)

Final Portfolio Guidelines

• All Photos must have been made during this semester, for this class. They do not all have to have been submitted to the Flickr Group for grading, or even posted to Flickr (yet).

• A requirement of at least 5 images need to be from Graded Assignments. i.e. You choose at least 5 from: Marietta (Holga or 35mm), Portrait (Holga or 35mm), Landcape (Holga or 35mm), Holga Modified, or the ‘35mm Open’ Assignment. Concept images to do not count for these 5.

• You may re-shoot any of the above assignments according to it’s original assignment sheet to use in your Final Portfolio. Be aware that reshooting an assignment and submitting it to the final portfolio means you are relying on an image that will have no in-class critique by me nor your classmates, no gradesheet feedback, nor any feedback via the comments on Flickr. A large part of this class is sharing and recieveng feedback on images. Be sure your reshoot image is stellar if you are going to use it in your protfolio without class feedback.

• The other 5 images can be concept images, or anything else (out-takes) from this semester.

• The editing process is in part, a class based process. We will use flickr to organize a ‘Set’ of our top 15 images we are considering for inclusion in our portfolio. The class will then be involved in giving feedback on your potential images BEFORE you go about printing.

• An artist’s statement is required to preface your portfolio. The emphasis of this portfolio is as much to show of your photography skill as it is to also determine an over arching style and direction to your work as a photographer. A well written, one page artists statement speak in photographic terms about the style, subject matter, and process used to create the ten images you include. You work may be diverse (some Holga, some 35mm) but should still attain a level of consistency in theme and give the imrression of a professional and well concieved collection of work.

Portfolio Presentation

The collection of 10 prints will be due at the final exam time. There is no prerequesite for how the images are turned in; so long as the portfolio contains 10 images with the minimum dimensions and are safely contained with your name and phone number/email clearly displayed.

Some reccomendations for delivery are slim case presentation folders or print boxes. The college bookstore sells black portfolio folders in the art supply section, which will securely hold your images.

The following are other economical ways to both archive and present your prints. (Verfify the size of all of your prints before purchase.)

Wire Bound Album, Holds 24 prints, 11 in. x 14 in.

Black Archival Portfolio Box – 8.5 in. x 10.5 in x 2 in.

Black Archival Portfolio Box – 11.25 in. x 14.25 in. x 2 in.

Black Archival Portfolio Box – 12.75 in. x 16-5/8 in. x 2 in.
